Khloé Kardashian’s Eco Baby Registry + What She Needs to Rethink

March 16, 2018

I was inspired to see Khloé Kardashian choose some eco items for her baby registry. Below are just a few of her earth-friendly, kind-to-baby picks. However, there’s one product Khloé has put on her Amazon registry that she really needs to rethink. Read on to find out what it is and why…

Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter for Breastfeeding and Dry Skin

Khloé has chosen to only put organic and natural ingredients on her bub, the soon-to-be newest of the Kardashian clan. Earth Mama Organics are formulated by Melinda Olson, a nurse and herbalist who believes mamas, babies and families have a right to natural and organic herbal products, without any ingredients that “make you cringe”.

Earth Mama Herbal Perineal Spray

While I used another all-natural brand, I highly recommend following Khloé’s lead with using a postpartum cooling spray, to soothe and help ease discomfort of postpartum vaginal soreness, swelling, episiotomies and haemorrhoids. Ingredients include astringent witch hazel, antibacterial lavender, and cooling peppermint pure essential oils.

Mama Mio The Tummy Rub Oil

Khloé chose a mama-favourite with this fast-absorbing and non-greasy natural formula for her growing bump. This is an oil infused with a blend of organic oils, including avocado, olive, rosehip, argan and sweet almond to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and help keep the skin more elastic as it stretches.

Water Wipes

Water Wipes are a staple in our house for our nine-month-old baby boy. I have thought about buying reusable wipes, but there is also the consideration of the energy to wash and dry them. Khloe will love these—as will her baby girl—because they are 99 percent water, with one percent fruit extract preservative. Traditional wipes are full of toxic fragrances that can cause allergies, irritations and health issues. Water Wipes are a great alternative.

Bamboo Baby Diapers

While disposable nappies/diapers aren’t the most eco-friendly option, choosing a earth-friendly brand is much better for baby and Mother Nature than traditional diapers. How so? The (often) most recognised brands are made with toxic materials that no-one wants to expose themselves to—let alone their baby. Dioxins, sodium polycrylate, dyes, fragrances and phthalates have been shown to cause cancer, asthma and hormone disruption. By Khloé Kardashain choosing Bambo Nature, it’s likely she’s awake to just how awful traditional diapers can be.

Naturepedic Organic Cotton Contoured Changing Pad

The Naturepedic Organic Cotton Contoured Changing Pad has an organic cotton filling that’s touted as “pure, natural, and chemical free”. Still, I’m not sold on the polyethylene food grade waterproof coating. At the end of the day it’s still plastic. I opted for no change table for baby two, and simply bought an organic change mat from Nature Baby, which I pop on the floor, lounge etc.

Burt’s Bees Solid Changing Pad Cover

Khloé choose a 100 percent organic cotton jersey knit cover, which is extremely breathable. Burt’s Bees uses ring-spun cotton and an extra combing process so it’s super soft on baby’s skin. Burt’s Bees Baby GOTS Certified Organic products are responsibly made. They have high standards of third-party certification, authenticating that synthetic pesticides and harmful chemicals are kept out of the growing and manufacturing process.

Hipp Organic 100% Baby Rice

Khloé Kardashian has chosen an organically-grown baby food option, which means her bub won’t be exposed to the neuro-toxic chemicals that are often used on traditionally-grown produce. If you’re curious about what pesticides are used in the growing of non-organic rice, see here.

Dyson Air Purifier

Indoor pollutants are health hazards, from off-gassing furniture, carpets, paints and more—and babies are particularly sensitive to them. The Dyson HEPA filter is said to remove 99.97 percent of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns including pollen, dust, mold spores, bacteria and pet dander. Second filter layer with active carbon captures household odors and volatile organic compounds such as paint fumes. What I don’t love about this, is the Wifi functionality, but more on that, below.

One Major Item Khloé Kardashian Needs to Re-Think

I can’t stress enough just how much Khloé needs to re-think and reverse her decision to attach an Owlet Baby Monitor to her newborn baby’s foot. Such monitors have been shown to do much more harm than good, including one mum who took to Facebook to warn others about their use, after her baby received burns from wearing one. Besides this, it’s the electromagnetic exposure that is making conscious-minded parents turn their backs on monitors all together (me included). There are a slew of experts who agree:

“Putting Wi-Fi in schools; allowing cordless phones that radiate constantly to be manufactured; placing wireless baby monitors near an infant; using a wireless tablet, smart phone or computer while pregnant; holding a cell phone next to the head and keeping a cell phone in a bra or hip pocket or under a pillow; placing cell phone antennas near homes, schools and on hospitals; metering electricity, water and gas with wireless smart meters and designing smart appliances for the home will be viewed by future generations as dumb technology generated by greed for a population that is largely ignorant of the consequences.” — Dr. Magda Havas, PhD, Environmental and Resource Studies, Centre for Health Studies, Trent University, Canada
