Rock a Red Lip on Valentine’s Day

February 6, 2016

There are two ways you can rock red this Valentine’s Day.

Firstly make sure your lips are smooth and hydrated before applying any statement colour. To exfoliate your lips you can use special lip products made for that purpose, tons of brands make them these days. If you need something last minute then alternatively you can rub your tooth brush gently on your lips or make a home made lip scrub by mixing little bit of raw sugar with honey.

Always apply a lip balm or lip oil after any exfoliation; for my clients I apply the lip balm at the beginning of each makeup session, to allow the product to absorb into lips. If there is still some residue left, blot if on the back of your hand or a tissue before applying your favourite shade of red.

Simply rub your finger or a q-tip into your lip product and place it in the middle of your bottom lip. Then firmly rub your lips together in every direction, repeat this process until you are happy with the colour pay off. The colour should be the strongest in the middle of your bottom lip and then faded on the edges. Try Karen Murrell’s True Love.

If you prefer a more classic 40’s shaped lip, you will need some help from your trusty old friend – Mrs. lip brush. You can start by defining your lip line and once you are happy with that you can apply a thin layer of lipstick  straight from the tube (to the bottom lip only) and then rub your lips firmly together to spread the colour evenly. To make the lipstick last longer blot your lip on a piece of tissue and then repeat the whole process again. This will ensure that the colour will last at least few hours and when you eat or drink it will fade evenly.
